The Los Angeles Quilt Show & Fiber Art Fest is a celebration of community, where artists of all levels are invited to show their creations in a unique public space. The festivities include professional and peer-juried competitions, interactive classes and the chance to meet quilting guilds, supply companies, and fiber artists spanning an array of styles.

Easy, Stunning, AMAZING Randomly Pieced Backgrounds

In this class you'll learn to create your own AMAZING backgrounds from fabric scraps that you happen to have in your stash.

We will discuss the choices of fabric selection for backgrounds that are dynamic and showcase the focal point. We will also discuss how to “mix” the fabrics so that they create a smooth, flawless piece of fabric which then you can use as a background for a quilt.

You will practice by creating your own version of the Randomly Pieced Background.

Barbara Winkler of the Southern California chapter of Quilts of Valor will speak about the national movement to honor and comfort veterans by creating quilts for them. The SoCal Quilts of Valor chapter will be hosting a "Quiltathon" at this year's show, where volunteers will demonstrate their appreciation for veterans by working together on projects throughout the event. 

If you want to thank a veteran, you're invited to join in the Quiltathon, If you already know how to sew or want to learn, please bring a sewing machine along if you can. Even if you don’t know how to use a sewing machine, you are welcome to help cut fabrics, trim threads, and press fabric.

This mini class is an introduction to using fusible web as part of your quilting repertoire. We will explain the what, why, when and how to use fusibles. Then everyone gets to dive in and make a mini fusible quilt! There will be examples of quilts made with fusible for you to look at and inspect up close. Come get your fuse on!

Class: Crocheted Sculpture

Learn how to use crochet wire, magnetic tape and other unusual fibers to create one-of-a-kind sculptures based on shapes found in nature. No previous knowledge of crochet techniques is required, while those who are proficient in traditional techniques will benefit from new ideas introduced. Meriel will provide wire, magnetic tape, plastic bags, and fiber materials, as well as share historical reference materials for inspiration.

Grab a set of clues from the beverage station in the marketplace, and write down what you find. Return your findings to the beverage station for a chance to win a great prize.
